Care Information
Care Information
Traditional synthetic wigs are designed to hold their style with relatively little day-to-day work, but regular maintenance still plays an important role in how your wig looks, feels, and lasts. Handle the fiber and cap gently, detangle regularly, and pay special attention to high-friction areas such as the nape, shoulders, and places where the hair rubs against clothing. Start detangling toward the ends and gradually work upward rather than forcing a brush or comb through a tangle.
Use products and tools made for synthetic hair. A wire wig brush, wide-tooth wig comb, or your fingers may be appropriate depending on the style. Curly and highly textured wigs may be better maintained by finger-combing so the curl pattern is not disturbed. Shampoo, conditioner, detangler, dry shampoo, and styling products should be specifically approved for synthetic or alternative hair.
Wash as needed. A general guideline is approximately every 6–10 full-day wears, although your lifestyle, product use, environment, and the manufacturer's recommendations should guide your routine. Detangle the wig before washing, use cool water or the temperature recommended by the manufacturer, and wash gently without rubbing, twisting, or wringing the fibers. After rinsing, gently press out excess water with a clean towel.
Condition the fiber periodically or when it begins to feel dry or less manageable. For many synthetic wigs, conditioner or leave-in product is concentrated through the mid-lengths and ends rather than directly on the cap. Most synthetic wigs should then be allowed to air dry naturally, ideally on a wig or drying stand that allows air to circulate.
Important: Do not use heat on a traditional synthetic wig unless the manufacturer specifically identifies the fiber as heat safe. Heat protectant does not make a non-heat-safe synthetic fiber safe for heat.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your particular wig when they differ from general care recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right wig color?
Wig color names can vary significantly by manufacturer, which is why we recommend looking closely at the color images available on each product page rather than relying on the color name alone. If you are unsure between colors, use the Ask a Question section on the product page and Tia can help you narrow down your options.
How do I know which cap size is right for me?
Cap sizing varies by manufacturer and style. Check the product details for available sizing information and manufacturer recommendations. If you are unsure about fit or sizing, send Tia a question before ordering.
Can I use heat on my wig?
It depends on the fiber. Traditional synthetic wigs should not be exposed to heat unless the manufacturer specifically identifies the fiber as heat safe. Heat protectant does not make a non-heat-safe synthetic wig safe for heat. Heat-friendly synthetic and human hair products have different care requirements, so always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your particular piece.
How often should I wash my wig?
A general guideline is approximately every 6–10 full-day wears, although the right schedule depends on how frequently you wear the wig, your lifestyle, product buildup, and the manufacturer's recommendations. If your wig looks, smells, or feels like it needs to be washed, it probably does.
What products should I use on my wig?
Use products designed for your particular wig fiber. If your wig contains synthetic fiber, look for shampoos, conditioners, detanglers, and styling products specifically approved for synthetic or alternative hair. Products designed for biological hair are not necessarily appropriate for wigs.
How long will a wig last?
There is no single expiration date for a wig. You may hear general estimates of approximately 3–6 months for a synthetic wig worn daily, but lifespan varies considerably based on the fiber, length, friction, frequency of wear, lifestyle, and how the wig is maintained. Proper care can make a significant difference.
How long will my order take to ship?
Most orders process within approximately 3–5 business days, separate from shipping/transit time. Some items may ship directly from the manufacturer, and processing or transit times can vary due to inventory, weather, carrier delays, promotions, and other circumstances.
For complete information, please review our Shipping Policy.
What if I need help with my wig after I receive it?
Tia offers personalized help for wig wearers, including virtual and in-person wig coaching and consultations. If you are unsure about products, maintenance, styling, fit, or your particular wig, you do not have to figure everything out on your own.
